The Los Angeles Chargers could have as many compensatory picks as almost any team in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Compensatory draft picks seem to gain value each year in the NFL as teams rely on them more and more to stock their roster for the coming season.

There are many ways for teams to obtain a compensatory pick and it is not an easy process for most to understand. The league has up to 32 compensatory picks to hand out each year, but that does not mean that each team will get one. However, no team can get more than four per year.

More or less, it is a way for teams to recoup something for players that were lost in free agency. A compensatory pick can be awarded to a team that lost a player to free agency based on a formula that takes into account a player's average annual salary, snap counts and postseason awards. However, any free agents that the team signs can work against what they lost. The compensatory picks are given to help balance out the difference and can range from picks in the third round to the seventh round.

How many compensatory draft picks will the Chargers have in 2025?

With that in mind, Lance Zierlein of NFL.com has attempted to predict how many compensatory picks each team will have next year, something that won't be official until the conclusion of the coming season, and Chargers fans will be happy with his thoughts.

He has the Chargers receiving three compensatory draft picks, one in the fifth round and two in the sixth.

The Chargers lost Austin Ekeler, Kenneth Murray, Gerald Everett, Austin Johnson and Michael Davis to free agency while signing cornerback Kristian Fulton and running back Gus Edwards.

Though these would all be Day 3 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, Chargers fans should be confident in a front office that just put together a spectacular draft class

The team found Justin Eboigbe, Tarheeb Still, Cam Hart, Kimani Vidal, Brenden Rice and Cornelius Johnson with their Day 3 picks in this year's draft.
