The Los Angeles Chargers appear to be looking at adding a quarterback while they wait for Justin Herbert to return from a plantar fascia injury. However, it doesn't appear they are looking at making a splash move, at least not right now.

The team brought in Luis Perez on Monday for a look, likely looking to add the proverbial "camp arm" or to have more competition for the No. 3 quarterback spot, if there even is a third quarterback on the final depth chart.

The well-traveled Perez went undrafted in 2018 and has played in several different leagues, including multiple stints in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and Detroit Lions. He most recently played for the Arlington Renegades in the UFL and helped that team win the XFL Championship in 2023 where he was named the game's MVP.

Chargers worked out three players, two QBs

In addition to Perez, the Chargers took a look at Isaiah Wooden and Re-al Mitchell.

Wooden went undrafted in April before signing with the Atlanta Falcons. He played wide receiver at Southern Utah and was recently released by the Falcons.

The Chargers also brought in dual-threat quarterback Re-al Mitchell. If that name sounds familiar, you may have heard it on the Netflix show QB1 where he was shown on the same season as Justin Fields.

Mitchell played at Iowa State and Temple before transferring to San Diego ahead of the 2022 season. He was converted to wide receiver at San Diego and caught 54 passes last season. He's an athletic player who could be used in several spots, but it's unlikely the Chargers see him as a traditional quarterback.

As for Perez, he could certainly be serviceable through the preseason but all of this could be an indication that Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz have more confidence in Stick than most fans would like to admit.
