The Los Angeles Chargers have had a productive first handful of days of training camp, identifying several players who will contribute to this season's efforts. When building the 53-man roster, the wide receiver spot is likely to be filled with the toughest decisions.
One player who has looked good in camp thus far and is making a strong push to be part of that roster is Brenden Rice. Fans who hear his name and know that he is the son of Jerry Rice may consider him an automatic entry to the final roster, but as a seventh-round pick at a crowded position, there is no guarantee.
However, the odds seem to be swinging in his favor.
Brenden Rice had a fourth-round value in the draft
It's a mystery as to the reason Rice fell so far in the draft, as many analysts had a fourth-round grade on him. But he is making a great case with some terrific catches and solid play in camp.
Brenden Rice will make 31 teams pay for letting him slip to round 7.

The Chargers are going to keep Joshua Palmer, Quentin Johnston, Ladd McConkey, and D.J. Chark in all likelihood. That leaves Rice competing with fellow seventh-round pick Cornelius Johnson and Derius Davis to fight for one or two spots.
It will come down to performances in preseason games, but Rice will be tough for the team to let go of as he almost certainly would not clear waivers in order to be placed on the practice squad.
