Trade rumors surrounding Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams are starting to heat up, and one team that is in desperate need of wide receiver help happens to be in the Raiders' division: the Kansas City Chiefs.
According to Sports Illustrated's Michael Fabiano, there's a chance Adams could be dealt sooner rather than later. In fact, Fabiano says that he's hearing Adams could have played his last down in Las Vegas.
Adams suffered a hamstring injury at practice last week that forced him to miss the Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns, but Fabiano says that the star wide receiver could have played.
“I’ve got little birds all over, right?” Fabiano said. “Some of my little birds out there are suggesting to me that there’s a chance he doesn’t play another down for the Raiders and that he could have played yesterday, but the Raiders are looking to deal him because they think they could get some value for him. They know they’re going nowhere this year, especially with the quarterback situation they have right now.
“I know there is going to be no shortage of teams that will be looking to try and acquire him, and I’m guessing the No. 1 team on that list is probably the New York Jets,” Fabiano added. “I would not be surprised, especially with the way the Jets are playing, and Garrett Wilson’s not playing like an alpha right now, that Davante Adams ends up with the Jets… If the Raiders get what hey want in a trade for Adams, he’s going to be gone.”
One team Fabiano didn't mention was Kansas City, a team that has lost two starting wide receivers in Rashee Rice (torn ACL) and Marquise Brown (shoulder injury) to season-ending injuries.
The Chiefs would certainly be interested in Adams if he becomes available, but it's unlikely the Raiders would be willing to oblige that interest, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"I don't see the Raiders trading (Adams)... Surely not to the Chiefs," Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. "The Raiders got multiple inquiries (about Adams) this summer and didn't even entertain the conversation."
On top of the Chiefs being a division rival for the Raiders, Las Vegas general manager Tom Telesco has been battling Kansas City even before he took over the Raiders job, as he was the Los Angeles Chargers' GM for a decade. In that span, the Chiefs owned the Chargers, leaving Telesco with a bad taste in his mouth.
The last thing Telesco wants is to have Adams burning his team for the next few seasons (Adams has two more years left on his deal after 2024) and have to hear it from Raiders fans about the decision to trade the star wideout in the division. As a result, we wouldn't expect to see Adams go to Kansas City.
