The Las Vegas Raiders are currently open to trade offers for their star wide receiver Davante Adams after he requested a trade last week. Now, more details are emerging about that trade request.
According to Dianna Russini, Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur of The Athletic,Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce "was surprised" when Adams approached him with the trade request, which happened last week on Monday morning.
Adams told the Raiders he wanted to be traded to a better team, and Las Vegas told him they would oblige because the team doesn't want to keep a player who doesn't want to be there.
Pierce, it turns out, was surprised when Adams called a meeting with the coach last Monday morning, according to league sources. Adams told Pierce he wanted to be traded to a better team, Fox Sports first reported. The Raiders told Adams they would grant his wish, as they don’t want players who don’t want to be there, and talks continued with several teams Tuesday.
The day after his trade request, Adams made his weekly Tuesday appearance on "Up & Adams" and said he had no idea what was behind Pierce "liking" a trade rumor post about the wide receiver the night before.
He also stated that he didn't create any of the trade drama surrounding himself, even though it would appear his request spurred on Pierce's social media "like," which led to a firestorm of rumor and speculation.
“I haven’t heard from [Antonio Pierce]. I haven’t talked to him,” Adams said. “I don’t really know exactly what that was about. Obviously social media is a beast, so it’s a lot of people out there that saw it and wondering what’s going on, and people reaching out.”
“Honestly, it’s hard to comment on,” Adams added. “It’s one of those situations where I just keep my head down and keep doing my thing, and let the chips fall where they may. There’s been no communication with anybody from the team since that became thing… There’s always some sort of [trade] drama, but at the end of the day, one-seven doesn’t create any of it.”
When Pierce was asked where things went wrong with Adams, the Raiders head coach simply answered: "You’ve got to ask Davante that."
While Pierce might have been surprised, I don't anyone else on this planet is. After all, it was always likely Adams was going to want out if things went south in Las Vegas, and that's exactly the direction the team's season is heading.
