Unless you've been living under a rock, it comes as no surprise that Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams wants to be traded to the New York Jets.
After all, the Jets have Adams' former teammate and good buddy, Aaron Rodgers, who has publicly stated he would like to play with the star wide receiver again. Adams, of course, hasn't shied away about a reunion, either.
But does that mean a trade to the Jets is automatic? Based on a recent report, absolutely not.
At the end of the day, the Raiders are going to take the best deal possible in return for one of their best players, something NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed.
"While the Raiders could trade Adams to the Jets, they will do what's best for their organization, sources say, including taking the best deal from the highest bidder," he reported. "While players generally have some semblance of control -- in this case, Adams would have to rework his contract to facilitate a trade -- he is not in total control of where he ends up."
As Rapoport notes, Adams can make things difficult if the Raiders try and trade him to a team he doesn't want to play for. But there are options for Las Vegas, as Adams' list of preferred destinations isn't just one team.
Rapoport adds that squads like the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers are all teams that have inquired about Adams or are destinations he'd be willing to go to.
"In fact, according to sources informed of Adams' thinking, he is open to playing for several other teams," Rapoport reported. "The New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and perhaps the San Francisco 49ers are among teams that either have inquired about the six-time Pro Bowler or are places Adams would be happy landing."
It's likely general manager Tom Telesco will try and give Adams what he wants, but he isn't going to shoot himself in the foot to do it. He doesn't owe Adams anything.
