The Kansas City Chiefs will hang their third Super Bowl banner of the Patrick Mahomes era on Thursday night when they kickoff the season against the Baltimore Ravens. And with the season on the horizon, it’s time to predict how 2024 will unfold for the Chiefs by predicting every game on their schedule.
Week 1: vs. Baltimore Ravens
The Chiefs have the Ravens’ number. Mahomes has lost just once to Lamar Jackson in his career, and is undefeated against the Ravens at home.
Final prediction: Chiefs 23 Ravens 15
Week 2: vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Chiefs get two of their biggest games of the year back-to-back to open the season. The Bengals seem to be able to handle the Chiefs o a regular basis, as Joe Burrow is 3-1 against Kansas City in his career, and that total will go to 4-1 after Week 2.
Final prediction: Bengals 27, Chiefs 21
Week 3: at Atlanta Falcons
The Chiefs’ first road game will be against the new-look Falcons. And while Atlanta should win the NFC South, they aren’t on the Chiefs’ level.
Final prediction: Chiefs 30, Falcons 17
Week 4: at Los Angeles Chargers
The Bolts are under new leadership with Jim Harbaugh under the headset, but this is a team that will take more than one season to completely turn around.
Final prediction: Chiefs 35, Chargers 24
Week 5: vs. New Orleans Saints
New Orleans is bad. Their head coach is the worst in football and it appears that Derek Carr may have run out of starting quarterback ability. Now, their defense has consistently been very good so this could be the one game that every team has where they should win but it slips away. However, I’ll still pick the Chiefs.
Final prediction: Chiefs 23, Saints 16
Week 6: BYE
Week 7: at San Francisco 49ers
The last time the Chiefs went to Levi's Stadium, they won by three scores. And while things are obviously different from two years ago, you don’t want to face Andy Reid off a bye.
Final prediction: Chiefs 27, 49ers 23
Week 8: at Las Vegas Raiders
The last time Mahomes and the Chiefs were in Vegas, they were winning a Super Bowl. Good luck to checks notes Gardner Minshew.
Final prediction: Chiefs 31, Raiders 6
Week 9: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This is typically where the Chiefs will have a small slip-up. It’s the middle of the year, they know they’ll be in the playoffs, and more or less they are looking ahead and get caught napping. The Bucs have a good defense and an offense stacked with receiving talent that can give them a fight.
Final prediction: Buccaneers 24, Chiefs 20
Week 10: vs. Denver Broncos
Now a pissed off Chiefs team will take out all of their frustrations on poor Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos to get back on track.
Final prediction: Chiefs 43, Broncos 10
Week 11: at Buffalo Bills
Buffalo has taken care of business against the Chiefs in the regular season. Josh Allen is 3-1 against Kansas City outside of the postseason for his career. The Chiefs drop this one to Buffalo, and the Bills hope they can finally parlay that into a win against Kansas City in the playoffs.
Final prediction: Bills 28, Chiefs 22
Week 12: at Carolina Panthers
Ah, the NFC South. The Chiefs will go into Charlotte and ravage those poor Panthers.
Final prediction: Chiefs 37, Panthers 13
Week 13: vs. Las Vegas Raiders
Remember what happened in Week 8? Yeah, that again. Except maybe this time, it’s Aidan O’Connell.
Final prediction: Chiefs 33, Raiders 10
Week 14: vs. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers will put up more of a fight in the second matchup, but still that roster isn’t good enough to beat Kansas City.
Final prediction: Chiefs 28, Chargers 20
Week 15: at Cleveland Browns
Let’s take bets on who will be the quarterback for Cleveland in this game. Deshaun Watson is bad. He hasn’t been good in four years. The pesky winds of Lake Erie will keep the score low, but the Chiefs will win this handedly.
Final prediction: Chiefs 20, Browns 9
Week 16: vs. Houston Texans
The Texans are going to be a real player in the AFC for years to come with their superstar quarterback C.J. Stroud and all the weapons he has. They get the biggest statement win of this era with a win in Arrowhead.
Final prediction: Texans 30, Chiefs 23
Week 17: at Pittsburgh Steelers
Football on a Wednesday. Sure. The last time Mahomes was in Pittsburgh, he threw six touchdowns. The Steelers’ defense should be tremendous, but we’ve seen plenty of times before where the defense is just on the field too much because the offense can’t get enough going. Kansas City wins this and plays Grinch to Pittsburgh’s Whoville.
Final prediction: Chiefs 34, Steelers 17
Week 18: at Denver Broncos
The Chiefs will have the division on lock and play their starters for a half before resting them and avoiding injury. Still, it’ll be enough to beat Denver
Final prediction: Chiefs 20, Broncos 16
Final record prediction: 13-4
