The Kansas City Chiefs don't get enough credit for how well they've drafted over the last decade. It's easy to look at Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Andy Reid and give them the lion's share of the credit, but Brett Veach and the front office have consistently hit on draft picks in recent years.
George Karlaftis, Trent McDuffie, L'Jarius Sneed, Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith - the list could continue for quite a while.
And while the Chiefs have consistently knocked the draft out of the park, every team has some swings and misses in April, and it's time for Kansas City to cut ties with a first-round pick that simply hasn't panned out.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire was taken with the final pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft and was expected to add a whole other element to Kansas City's dynamic offense. After a solid rookie season that saw the LSU product rush for over 800 yards, he has had just 71 and 70 carries in the last two years, respectively, and is clearly getting lapped by other backs on the Chiefs' roster.
Deneric Prince has had a very good preseason, as has Carson Steele - both are deserving of spots on the roster behind Isiah Pacheco.
This has been one of the Chiefs' rare whiffs, but the bright side seems to be they have two other running backs ready and worthy of bigger roles.
