It's been a bad offseason for Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice.

The second-year wide receiver is now under police investigation for allegedly assaulting a photographer at a Dallas nightclub earlier this week, according to WFAA

"Dallas police sources say officers are interviewing witnesses about the incident that allegedly happened Monday at 609 N. Harwood Street, which is the address of Lit Kitchen," WFAA staffers Rachel Snyder, Rebecca Lopez and Joe Trahan wrote Tuesday afternoon.

The Dallas Morning News also reported the Rice allegations and added that no charges had been filed and there are no records of an arrest connected to these allegations.

Neither Rice's lawyers, the Chiefs or the NFL have made any official statements in light of these new allegations.

Rice is already facing eight charges after he was involved in a multi-car accident in Dallas in April. Two cars, a Corvette and a Lamborghini, lost control while speeding at speeds that exceeded 100 mph on a Dallas highway and ignited a six-vehicle accident. Rice eventually turned himself in to the police and he was later discovered to be the driver of the Lamborghini.

The receiver is expected to be suspended for multiple games in 2024 because of that incident, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's unclear if this new case will affect a possible suspension with the league.

In regards to the car accident, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said during the 2024 NFL Draft that the league will "allow the legal process to move through" before making any decisions.

"We obviously are following it closely," Goodell added, "and as soon as they’re done with the process, we will be engaged and be prepared to look at that under all of our personal conduct policies."

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes said something similar in mid-April after the news of Rice's speeding incident broke. Reid said he's "leaving that like we've done most of these, just for the law enforcement part of it to take place and then we'll go from there with that." Mahomes added that "we’ll continue that work as the legal process plays out."

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said on Day 3 of the NFL Draft that he's "very disappointed with the situation with Rashee and how that's unfolded" before adding that Rice is "still a member of the Kansas City Chiefs."

Again, these statements were made regarding Rice's ongoing car crash case and not these new assault allegations.

The Chiefs drafted Rice in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of SMU. He caught 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie during Kansas City's Super Bowl season. Rice caught four receptions for 26 yards and one touchdown in the postseason.

Rice was expected to be a focal point of the offense in 2024, even after the Chiefs signed receiver Marquise Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
