A week after waking up in a potential season-saving performance, the offense fell back asleep for the Jacksonville Jaguars in Sunday’s brutal, 35-16 loss to the Chicago Bears in London.
Jacksonville’s run game disappeared, and so did quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s thriving connection with star rookie Brian Thomas Jr. Despite leading Jacksonville’s WR corps in total snaps for the first time this season (49), Thomas was limited to three catches for 27 scoreless yards against Chicago’s tough secondary.
Meanwhile, the rushing attack that fueled Jacksonville’s 37-34 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 was surprisingly abandoned.
Tank Bigsby, who entered the game with a league-leading 8.0 yards-per-carry average, handled only six total touches. Even with starter Travis Etienne Jr. exiting early with a hamstring injury, it was third-stringer D'Ernest Johnson who out-snapped and out-touched Bigsby as Jacksonville averaged just 3.4 yards per rush as a team.
Here’s a full snap-count breakdown for a Jaguars team that dropped to 1-6 on the season:

Even the two bright spots had issues on offense for the Jaguars. Gabe Davis finally produced with a pair of touchdown grabs, but they came with the game firmly in Chicago’s control. The score the Jags needed was Davis’ blatant drop in the end zone on their 14-play drive to open the game that frustratingly ended with a field goal.

Tight end Evan Engram returned for his first game since Week 1, played 38 snaps and caught 10 passes for 102 yards. That was the good news. The bad was he lost a soft fumble on Jacksonville’s first play of the second half, leading to a Bears touchdown and 21-3 deficit.

Jacksonville’s safety play continues to be a major issue. Andre Cisco’s day looked good in the box score with an interception againist rookie QB Caleb Willams, but he also brutally missed a tackle on tight end Cole Kmet’s first-half touchdown.

After rising up for three sacks and four solo tackles against the Colts — and statuesque backup quarterback Joe Flacco — Travon Walker put together an unimpactful 45 snaps on the EDGE. The same could be said about Josh Hines-Allen (47), but at least he was one of the few Jaguars defenders to land a hit on Williams, who carved up the Jacksonville D for four passing touchdowns.
Overall, it was another brutal effort on both sides of the ball for a Jacksonville team that could be considering wholesale changes in the near future.
