The Los Angeles Rams surprised a lot of people in 2023 when they made the playoffs after a year in which they limped to a 5-12 record. And while all the limelight went towards Matthew Stafford and Puka Nacua, the Rams' defense was much better than anyone expected with a lot of previously unknown names.
One name that had made a name for himself, though, was linebacker Ernest Jones IV, who was a captain for the Rams. However, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Los Angeles has given Jones a permission to seek a trade after both sides couldn't agree to an extension.
Right now, Devin Lloyd is set to be the Jaguars' starter in the middle of their defense alongside Chad Muma and Foyesade Oluokun. Putting Jones next to Lloyd would be an upgrade over Muma. He had 144 tackles in 2023 compared to 15 for Muma, who has 62 over 2022 and 2023.
Jacksonville finished 23rd in EPA against the run in 2023. If they can add a stud like that in the middle of their defense, they should send a draft pick to the Rams and bring Jones to Duval.
The Jaguars are set to travel to Miami in Week 1 to face the Dolphins as they begin their quest to to get back in the playoffs.
