The Jacksonville Jaguars are in desperate need of a win. Getting one of struggling quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s go-to targets back on the field would certainly help.
While there was some hope that Evan Engram could return this week from the hamstring injury that’s kept him out since Week 2, especially after he previewed his team’s matchup with the Houston Texans with reporters at his locker, Jacksonville’s starting tight end looks like a long shot to play on Sunday.
The Jaguars listed Engram as a non-participant in Thursday’s practice. He’s been unable to engage in organized football activities since injuring his hamstring on Sept. 15. He’ll likely need to get back on the field in at least a limited capacity on Friday to avoid missing his third consecutive game.
Lawrence could use him. He enters Week 4 ranked in the bottom third of the league in every notable statistical category, including passing yards (25th), passer rating (26th) and completion percentage (30th). Lawrence has just two touchdown passes in three games.
Brenton Strange has operated as the Jaguars top tight end in Engram’s absence.
The Jaguars are among the more banged-up teams in the league through the first month of the regular season. Outside linebacker Devin Lloyd was added to Thursday’s injury report as a DNP with a knee injury, placing his status in serious doubt. Starting middle linebacker Foye Oluokun is also trending towards being out after injuring his foot in the first half of Monday night’s blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills.
