The Jacksonville Jaguars had a much different picture of how the 2024 season would go for them coming into the season. They had just paid their franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. They brought in pieces to fill out the roster and help them get over the hump in the AFC. It was an offseason of promise for a franchise that hasn’t had much to get excited about in recent years.
Then reality came calling. The Jaguars have gotten off to an 0-4 start to the season, and the situation is rapidly deteriorating. So much so that some believe that the team could be headed towards a fire-sale of talent if the losing continues. In his weekly column with Dan Graziano for ESPN, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler floated the idea that the Jaguars could look to move a handful of players before the NFL trade deadline to essentially hit the reset button.
Fowler lists players like Devin Lloyd, Andre Cisco, and Travis Etienne as players who could draw significant interest from teams if the word is out that they’re available. Fowler also mentions that the Jaguars have three good offensive tackles, with Walker Little being “the odd man out” of the lineup, and with teams always needing offensive line help, he could be another hot name on the market.
While dumping that amount of talent should yield the Jaguars some significant draft capital to help them rebuild from the ground up, if the situation comes to that you have to wonder what other changes will be on the horizon for the club. It’s looking more and more likely each day that head coach Doug Pederson won’t survive many more losses, but how much longer does general manager Trent Baalke have if the Jaguars start selling off all their talent? Will he be able to survive another rebuild?
