The Indianapolis Colts made their first trade of the 2024 NFL Draft, moving back from No. 46 to No. 52 in a deal with the Carolina Panthers.

The second-round trade moved the Colts back six spots, and they were able to add two selections in the fifth round—Nos. 142 and 155.

This is a solid deal for the Colts, who always have a penchant for trading back and acquiring more picks. After staying put in Round 1 to select edge rusher Laiatu Latu, the Colts made sure to grab some value while avoiding moving back too far.

Adding those two picks in the fifth round could be a big deal for Chris Ballard, who has had a lot of success making selections in the middle of Day 3.

After adding a major piece to the pass rush in Round 1, the Colts made a smart move moving back on Day 2 to acquire some extra value.

Grade: B+
