Indianapolis Colts right tackle Braden Smith is practicing Sunday for the first time at training camp.

Sidelined as he recovers from offseason knee surgery, Smith is a vital piece of the offensive line. He missed the entirety of the spring workouts, but it's an encouraging sign that he's able to get on the field this early at camp.

Smith avoided the PUP list, which signaled that the Colts didn't see Smith being out long. However, the 28-year-old starter could be limited as he gets back onto the field.

The Colts will make sure they don't rush Smith back from his recovery. He's a key piece to the offensive line, and he only played in 10 games during the 2023 season.

With Smith back in some capacity, the battle for the swing tackle role between Blake Freeland and rookie Matt Goncalves will resume on the second and third-team units.
