As the state of Texas deals with the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl, those in the community are stepping up during this time of need. That includes former Texans cornerback Steven Nelson, who's been helping clean up the storm damage in Houston.

"First and foremost, I hope everybody is safe," Nelson said in a video he posted on social media. "I'm very dedicated to helping people get fast relief."

Nelson, who can be seen in the video chopping up a tree that had been struck by lightning, said his direct messages would remain open to anyone who needs help in the aftermath of the storm.

After spending two seasons in Houston, the 31-year-old officially retired last month to spend more time with his family. Nelson started 31 total games for the Texans, recording five interceptions and 19 passes defended. It's nice to see Nelson continue to embrace the city of Houston even though he's no longer playing for the team.

The former Oregon State standout was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Nelson spent four seasons in Kansas City before playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles and Texans.
