The Green Bay Packers will be without the services of one of their fan favorites for the 2024 National Football League season.
Green Bay had to cut down its roster to 53 players on Tuesday afternoon and announced that running back AJ Dillon will miss the season after being placed on the season-ending Injured List, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
"The Packers placed (running back) AJ Dillon (neck) on injured reserve and didn't designate him to return. He's officially out for the entire 2024 season," Pelissero said.
Dillon had been mentioned as someone who could leave the Packers during the offseason, but he stuck around throughout the summer. The 26-year-old now will miss the entire 2024 due to his neck injury.
The announcement was one of the more surprising of the day in which hundreds of players were cut and some were traded across the league. The new season will kick off in just under two weeks and Green Bay will have to figure out a way to operate without Dillon in its backfield.
He was selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2020 National Football League Draft and has been an important piece of the offense over the last four seasons. Last year, he had 613 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Hopefully, Dillon is able to make a full recovery and will be ready to go in 2025. The Packers certainly still have a solid chance to make some noise in 2024, but it is unfortunate that they will be without the services of one of their fan favorites.
