One former member of the Green Bay Packers has found a new home.
It has been a long and difficult week across the National Football League. Hundreds of players were cut and some were traded as teams had to cut down rosters to just 53 players. Many players lost their roles with their former teams and now are available on the open market
Former Packers offensive lineman Royce Newman was one of the players who was cut earlier this week but he didn't last on the open market for long. Newman reportedly was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud.
"Bucs claimed guard Royce Newman from the Green Bay Packers," Stroud said. "Depth with the team having Sua Opeta go on (Injured Reserve) with a knee injury"
Newman spent the first three seasons of his National Football League career as a member of the Packers. He was a starter in 2021 and started 16 of 17 games. Over the last two seasons, he has been more of a depth lineman for the Packers. He started six games in 2022 and just two games in 2023.
Overall, Newman appeared in 51 games as a member of the Packers and made 24 starts. He now will have a chance to fight for a spot on the Buccaneers' active roster after being let go by Green Bay. Hopefully, he is able to impress and land a role with Tampa Bay.
