The Detroit Lions lost the heart and soul of their defense in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys, as star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a gruesome leg injury.
Hutchinson went down with the injury in the third quarter after notching a sack on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. The former No. 2 overall pick didn't get up after the play, staying down in obvious pain.
Unfortunately, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Hutchinson's left leg was put in an air cast, which is the worst sign possible. He was then carted off the field after players gathered around him, showing clear concern for his well-being. Hutchinson was immediately ruled out by the Lions.
There is video of Hutchinson's injury floating around on social media. We did not include it in this article because it is one of the most gruesome things you will ever see. That is not us overstating it, either.
Hutchison has been everything the Lions could have hoped for, and then some, which only makes this injury tougher to swallow.
He was in the midst of yet another career year, with the aforementioned sack giving Hutchinson 7.5 on the season, which leads the league and was just four shy of his career best total of 11.5.
But Hutchinson's impact goes well beyond the field. He has been great in the community and is a leader in the locker room. His shoes cannot be filled.
After Hutchinson went down with the injury, the NFL world shared its condolences and wished Hutchinson the best.
