The Detroit Lions enjoyed a bye in Week 5, but before that their offense exploded in Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks in what was the unit's best showing of the 2024 campaign. Running back David Montgomery and wide receiver Jameson Williams played a huge role in that.
Williams only had two catches, but he took one of them 70 yards to the house, once again showing elite big-play ability. In all, Williams finished with 80 receiving yards in the winning effort.
Montgomery only had 40 yards on the ground but also found pay dirt and added 40 receiving yards on one incredible reception.
After what we've seen of Williams and Montgomery thus far in 2024, should either be in fantasy football lineups when the Lions take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 6? Let's discuss.
Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 6: Jameson Williams
Williams ranks second on the team in targets behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, so he's a huge factor in the offense. Adding to that, it looks like quarterback Jared Goff is starting to find his stride after a great performance in Week 4, which will only improve Williams' outlook.
The Cowboys have been stingy against opposing receivers, giving up the eight-fewest fantasy points per game to the position, but they also haven't faced a difficult slate of quarterbacks to begin the season.
Dallas will be without Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, which will hurt its pass-rush and give Goff more time to find the open man. And, cornerback DaRon Bland won't be making his return, leaving Dallas' secondary short-handed for another week.
Entering the bye week, Williams ranked as WR16 overall, making him a borderline WR2 play on a weekly basis, regardless of matchup. Thus, he should be in your lineup in Week 6.
Verdict: Start 'Em
Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Week 6: David Montgomery
Even with the presence of Jahmyr Gibbs, Montgomery is still productive. In fact, he ranked as RB9 overall in PPR entering the bye week, which was just one spot behind Gibbs.
This matchup against the Cowboys is a very favorable one, as Dallas is ceding the fourth-most fantasy points per game to running backs and the 10th-most rushing yards per contest.
Montgomery is a borderline RB1 and should be in lineups every week.
Verdict: Start 'Em
