Despite seeing one of the biggest increases in Twitter/X followers in the NFL, the Detroit Lions still rank near the middle of the pack in total followers on their social media account.

According to NFL analyst Rene Bugner, from May 16, 2022 to May 18, 2024, the Lions have seen an increase of 18.2% in their number of Twitter followers, the fourth-biggest increase in the league in that span.

When it comes to total followers, however, the Lions have the 19th-most with 1.960 million, although that's one spot higher than they ranked a few years ago.

One of the reasons behind the increase almost certainly has to do with the Lions emerging as one of the best teams in the NFL and making a run to the NFC Championship Game last season.

The Lions have been down and out for years and have never won a Super Bowl, so the average fan no doubt has a soft spot for the franchise, which helps garner support.

It also helps that they have a head coach and players who are very likeable and easy to root for. Some have even gone as far as to call them "America's Team", a moniker the Dallas Cowboys have gone by for years.

The teams with the biggest increases in followers are the Buffalo Bills at 36.4%, and the Cincinnati Bengals at 31.7%.

The New England Patriots remain the top dog in total followers with 4.672 million. Behind them is the former "America's Team", the Cowboys (4.408 million), and then the Philadelphia Eagles (3.887 million).
