The Detroit Lions' new-look secondary has gotten off to a solid start to the 2024 campaign over the first two games, but one NFL analyst thinks the team should acquire more help.

In a recent article discussing every NFL team's weaknesses, Bleacher Report's Matt Holder did not identify safety as one of the Lions', but he does think the team should add one because of an injury at the position.

Holder's suggestion was an uninspiring one, though, as he named former Green Bay Packers safety, Rudy Ford.

"Ifeatu Melifonwu has been banged up to begin the campaign and Kerby Joseph missed Wednesday's practice with a hamstring injury," Holder wrote. "So it might be smart for the Lions to add another safety to the roster or practice squad just in case. Ford would be a good option since he has experience lining up at free and strong safety and knows the NFC North well after spending the last couple of years in Green Bay."

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Melifonwu, the Lions are still in good shape with Brian Branch, Kerby Joseph, Brandon Joseph and Loren Strickland on the roster, so their situation at safety isn't dire by any means.

Furthermore, Ford isn't likely to move the needle all that much, even as a backup. After all, he failed to make the Carolina Panthers' roster out of training camp and Carolina is one of the worst teams in the NFL.

If the Lions suffer another injury at safety on top of Melifonwu, then it might be time to take a look at adding someone. But, for now, Detroit should be fine.
