It is not an exaggeration to say that the Detroit Lions have dished out a boatload of money to some of their most important players this offseason, with quarterback Jared Goff being the latest one to get a contract extension.

Last month, the Lions inked wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year deal worth $120.01 million, and then they signed right tackle Penei Sewell to a four-year pact worth $112 million.

Now, they have their quarterback locked up for the long haul, with Goff and the Lions agreeing to a four-year, $212 million contract that includes a whopping $170 million guaranteed. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the fourth year is an option.

The $53 million annual average places Goff second among quarterbacks, trailing only Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller, Joe Burrow, according to Over the Cap. The guaranteed money puts Goff in sixth among players at his position.

While Goff doesn't lead in either of those categories, he does take the honor of having the richest contract in Lions history. The honor is well-deserved for a quarterback who has no doubt elevated his team in recent years.

Now, Goff and the Lions can put the extension talks behind them and focus on the 2024 campaign in which they have serious Super Bowl aspirations.
