Detroit Lions make important hire to replace departed executive, per report image

After losing former senior director of football administration Brandon Sosna to the Washington Commanders, who hired him as the senior vice president of football operations, the Detroit Lions have reportedly found his replacement.

According to ESPN's Seth Walder, the Lions are hiring Charlie Adkins as the new senior director of football administration. Adkins had previously served as the Arizona Cardinals' manager, football analytics and research for five years.

As the name suggests, Adkins, who spent seven years in total with Arizona, worked in analytics for the Cardinals and was someone general manager Monti Ossenfort depended on in the team's NFL Draft war room.

In Sosna's role with the Lions, he handled "strategic planning and management of the salary cap" while also being the team's "chief contract negotiator," so Adkins figures to have those duties, also.

The Cardinals and Lions are no strangers to poaching staff from one another. Detroit hired director of player health and performance Brett Fischer after a long stint with the Cardinals, and Arizona hired former Lions director of college scouting Dave Sears as their assistant general manager in the same year.
