The Detroit Lions have one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL. When you think of this unit, you think of Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, Jahymr Gibbs, Jameson Williams and even David Montgomery.
However, there is one member of the Lions’ offense who is often overlooked but is a valuable contributor. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently identified each team’s “hidden gem” so far in 2024.
For the Lions, Knox picked tight end Brock Wright. Knox offered the following regarding that selection:
While LaPorta is Detroit's top pass-catcher at the tight end position, Wright still fills a valuable role for the team. He's a serviceable, though not elite, blocker who can give Goff an extra target on occasion.
Wright came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2021 and has carved out a nice role for himself.
The tight end was even targeted by the San Francisco 49ers last offseason, with the Lions having to match a three-year, $12 million contract to keep him in town.
So far in 2024, Wright has caught 7 passes for 49 yards. While not gaudy numbers by any means, he also offers value as a blocker. Wright has played half of the team’s offensive snaps in 2024 and is clearly a valued member of this unit.
