The Detroit Lions haven't gotten off to the start they hoped they would ahead of a year in which the team has Super Bowl aspirations. But Lions star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson is taking the glass-half-full approach.
Detroit narrowly beat the Los Angeles Rams in overtime in Week 1 before suffering its first loss of the 2024 campaign in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a brutal loss, as the Lions shot themselves in the foot and couldn't finish off several drives that made it into the red zone.
After the game, Hutchinson, who tallied 4.5 sacks in the losing effort, said he thinks the loss could be good for Detroit. He rightly believes it's better to struggle early on than later in the season.
“Yeah, I mean, it sucks, but I was just talking to some guys. I think this is going to be good for us,” Hutchinson said, per Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire. “We lost last year (in Week 2) too. I remember we lost to Seattle and everybody thought we sucked again. I think we’re going to keep this one in perspective and if we’re going to struggle a little bit as a team, I think I’d rather struggle early.”
The good news for the Lions is, their early-season struggles on offense are fixable, and the defense has been playing well. And, led by head coach Dan Campbell, the Lions have the right culture to make sure things get back on track.
Detroit will look to do that in a Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals in the desert.
