After using their first-round pick (No. 12 overall) on Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, whoever opens the season as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos, unless it's Nix, is just going to be keeping that seat warm.
But right now, it seems that Jarrett Stidham may have a firm grasp on that job, at least when it comes to him or Zach Wilson. Broncos insider Mike Klis of 9News reported that Stidham seems to have outplayed both Nix and Wilson thus far this offseason.
That may come as a mild surprise to some, but there is still training camp and three preseason games to officially determine this.
Jarrett Stidham might be current QB1, Zach Wilson QB3
There is no doubt that the job belongs to Nix as soon as he is ready for it, but Sean Payton may decide not to throw him out on the field immediately and instead, allow either Stidham or Wilson to take some of the lumps that he may see coming.
Bo Nix is surprisingly being outplayed at the beginning of his Denver Broncos career by a familiar face: another former Auburn football star, Jarrett Stidham https://t.co/k7pKNV4PhL

Stidham took over as the starter late in the 2023 season when Russell Wilson was benched so this isn't terrible news for Broncos fans. It is terrible news for Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick. The Broncos have done their best to bring out whatever might be left for Wilson since trading for him this offseason, but if these reports are to believed, it's not working too well.
If Wilson can't beat out Stidham for what is nothing more than a short bridge job until Nix is ready, then his days as an NFL quarterback could be dwindling.
