Denver Broncos: The idea of bringing Justin Simmons back is nice, but won't happen image

Some were shocked and some were not when the Denver Broncos chose to release Justin Simmons this offseason. Although the move saved the Broncos $14.5 million against the salary cap, most can agree that it was a difficult decision for the team to make.

Simmons had played with the team for eight years after being drafted in the third round out of Boston College in 2016. He made the Pro Bowl twice and had 30 interceptions for the team, putting his name among the best in team history along with the likes of Steve Atwater and Dennis Smith.

Since that move was made, Simmons has yet to catch on with a new team. The reasons for that could be several, but it likely boils down to him looking for the perfect situation in terms of pay and a chance to play for a winner. However, the fact that he hasn't landed a new deal has led many to speculate that perhaps the Broncos bring him back.

It's a fun idea and one that many Broncos fans would love to see come to fruition. But it is quite unlikely.

The Broncos made a difficult decision to let Simmons go, which could have easily left a bad taste in his mouth. For him to come back, likely for much less money, would have to feel like a defeat. Simmons is also most likely looking to play for a winner and since he never played in one postseason game in Denver, that can't be an ideal fit to fill that desire.

Simmons will get a new deal at some point. He has probably spoken with several teams and is just weighing his options. Look for him to sign a one-year deal with a team he can get to the playoffs with, even if it is for less money than he originally planned on.

His time in Denver is over and that ship has sailed.
