The Denver Broncos had a solid running back room this summer and the talent within it allowed them to move on from veteran running back Samaje Perine. They attempted to find a trade partner but had to release him when that couldn't happen.
But when that happens, any team in the league can sign that player. If the Broncos could choose one place they probably didn't want Perine to go, it would be the Kansas City Chiefs. But...

That is exactly what happened. If you know Perine's game and watch the Chiefs play on anything close to a regular basis, you know that this is a perfect fit.
Perine is a tough runner, but where he excels is as a receiver out of the backfield. Playing with Patrick Mahomes, he could be a real problem for teams playing defense.
Samaje Perine is a perfect fit for the Chiefs' offense
The Chiefs are not deep at running back. Isiah Pacheco is the starter and then they have Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Carson Steele. Perine should not only get a chance to play with the Chiefs but a chance to be a significant contributor.
Andy Reid values his running backs and likes to spread the wealth, particularly with those who can catch out of the backfield. This makes this an ideal landing spot for the veteran who spent just one year with the Broncos.
Things did not work for Perine to stay in Denver, but he now has a chance to be part of the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.
