The ongoing saga between Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys may be running out of time to come to a happy ending for Dallas. With Week 1 on the horizon, it looks less and less likely that a deal will get done to keep Dak in Dallas for the long haul.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport hints that time may be running out for any deal to get done.
"Dak Prescott's agent and the Dallas Cowboys have been in conversations for about a month or so, maybe a little more, about a potential big-time contract extension that of course would make him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL," Rapoport said on The Insiders. "My understanding right now is the two sides are not close. The clock is ticking. Of course he is going to practice, he's going to play the season. There's no questions there."
Rapoport notes that if a deal isn't done by Saturday, it feels highly unlikely that one will get done at all.
"If that doesn't get done by Saturday... you really have to wonder, is a deal going to get done at all? The stakes are as high as it gets for the Dallas Cowboys."
It seems that the likeliest outcome will be Dak playing out the final year of his contract before testing the free agent market, which will lead to him signing elsewhere ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
