The Dallas Cowboys will open their 2024 NFL season without star cornerback DaRon Bland, who suffered a foot injury.
According to Nick Harris of the Cowboys official website, Bland will miss between 6-8 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. The injury does require surgery, and the timetable for his return means he'll miss at least four games to open the campaign.
Bland is entering his third NFL season. A fifth-round pick in 2022 out of Fresno State, he quickly established himself as one of Dallas' top defensive stars as a rookie.
Since then, Bland has become one of the best ball-hawking defensive backs in football. Nobody has more interceptions (14) than he has since coming into the league.
It goes without saying that this injury to Bland will increase the level of difficulty facing the Cowboys in the first half of the 2024 NFL season.
So who will take the spotlight playing opposite star Trevon Diggs on Sundays this fall? Per Harris, the team could turn to Caelen Carson and Andrew Booth in this role until Bland is ready to play again after his recovery from injury.
