The Dallas Cowboys entered the 2024 offseason with a need at wide receiver, and after failing to adequately address the position, that need remains.
But as the NFL trade deadline approaches, the Cowboys will likely have a chance to remedy the situation, as there figures to be at least a few established wide receivers available.
One possible option could be Cincinnati Bengals stud wide receiver Tee Higgins, who Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes could be someone the Cowboys target if the Bengals are willing to part ways.
"Dallas may have salvaged its season with a much-needed win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, and it could use a strong complement to CeeDee Lamb on the perimeter," Knox wrote. "Brandin Cooks was recently placed on injured reserve following a knee procedure."
The Bengals are in deep trouble after five games, with Joe Burrow and Co. sporting a 1-4 record and on track to have a lost season. With Higgins in the final year of his deal, the Bengals trading him is a very realistic possibility.
The Cowboys' already thin wide receiver corps. took a hit recently after Brandin Cooks landed on injured reserve after having work done on his knee. That leaves unproven Jalen Tolbert as Dallas' No. 2 receiver behind star CeeDee Lamb.
Higgins would immediately slide into that No. 2 job, pushing Tolbert down to a more suitable No. 3 role. And, when paired with Lamb, the Cowboys would have one of the very best one-two punches in the NFL at the position.
After missing the first two games due to injury and getting off to a slow start in his debut, Higgins has been rounding into form the past two weeks, with Week 5 being his best showing of the campaign thus far.
The only problem with acquiring Higgins is he could end up being a rental, as he's slated to hit free agency next year. But if Jerry Jones wants to prove he's really "all in" on this season, he'll be aggressive in trying to land Higgins should he become available ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline.
