After an offseason full of noise, drama, and the foundation for future breakups seemingly being laid, the Dallas Cowboys shocked everyone when they signed CeeDee Lamb to a massive contract, and then got a deal done with quarterback Dak Prescott just hours before kickoff in Week 1 to make him the highest paid player in NFL history on a per year basis.
One other player that will need to be paid relatively soon is star defender Micah Parsons. The Penn State product still has two years left on his current deal, as the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option, but is set to be a free agent after the 2025 season.
Appearing on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones was asked about Parsons and the potential of getting a new contract done.
"Right now, it’s certainly not anything that’s on the table," Jones said. "Micah made a conscientious decision that he thinks he can put together an even better year. I think he got off to a great start yesterday against the Browns. I think his play speaks louder than words... Each individual is different. Opportunities come and when they are and the player feels good about something then we’ll certainly will move to do something. At the same time, sometimes players just aren’t ready yet. They don’t feel like their situation is in the right situation to start the process."
Parsons had four tackles and a sack on Deshaun Watson in the Cowboys' season opener. It would be shocking if he doesn't get a new deal from the Cowboys after this season.
