The Shedeur Sanders show going to the Cleveland Browns to replace Deshaun Watson would be something only found in a Hollywood script, right?
Maybe not.
Those Browns are mid-bellyflop as the $230 million quarterback struggles to match even output from Joe Flacco in the same offense recently.
That puts them in range for Sanders, son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, so Sports Illustrated’s Cory Kinnan has them taking the Colorado star sixth overall in his latest mock draft:
“We have the first quarterback off the board to a team that desperately needs to get the position right. The Browns have a competitive roster and are being let down by their $230 million quarterback. Even if it means he has to be relegated to the NFL's most expensive backup quarterback, the Browns must make a move. Getting the most accurate quarterback who can play on-schedule and with decisive eyes may just be the guy head coach Kevin Stefanski has been looking for the whole time. Welcome to Cleveland, Shedeur Sanders.”
Is Kevin Stefanski still around to oversee this project? Maybe not, but Watson will be because there is no escaping that cap nightmare.
Still, if the Browns pick in that range, it’s worth a shot. Sanders will bring a media circus that might make Tim Tebow blush, but as of this writing, he’s completed 68.9 percent of his passes with 111 touchdowns against just 20 interceptions for a reason.
Barring a return to form from Watson or one of his backups shining again, this might be a conversation that is only just getting started.
