The Cleveland Browns haven't had star running back Nick Chubb through the first five weeks of the 2024 campaign as he continues to work his way back from a horrific knee injury sustained during the 2023 season.
Chubb was designated to return from the physically unable to perform list on Oct. 2, but he was ultimately ruled out last week and was once again ruled out this week ahead of the Week 6 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, a report from Saturday indicated that Chubb is about to make his return to the field in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Here's the latest.
Nick Chubb injury update
According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Chubb is expected to play in Week 7 versus the Bengals, marking the first time he has seen the field since Week 2 of last year.
"With the Browns designating Chubb to return from the Physically Unable to Perform list on Oct. 3, his 21-day practice window is narrowing, and he’s expected to come bolting out of the tunnel next week against the Bengals and play for the first time since suffering the injury in Week 2 of last season in Pittsburgh," she wrote.
Nick Chubb fantasy football outlook
While there is concern about the dumpster that is Deshaun Watson and the Browns' offense, Chubb should absolutely be rostered moving forward. If he's available on waivers, go ahead and pick him up immediately. If you drafted him and held this long, good for you.
Prior to his injury, Chubb was one of the best options at running back in fantasy. In his last full season in 2022, the Browns star ranked as RB6 overall in PPR, and RB5 in standard.
Of course, it's possible the serious knee injuries Chubb has sustained during his career could lead to him not being himself, especially in the first games or even season back, but we'll first have to see it to believe it.
Now, we look ahead to start or sit advice for Chubb, who has always been a must-start player, regardless of matchup. But you should probably keep Chubb on the bench next week, as it's very possible the Browns ease him back in with a lightened workload.
If reports indicate he will not be limited, then by all means run him out there versus a Bengals defense that is slightly worse than a middle-of-the-road unit against running backs in fantasy.
