The Cleveland Browns are signing former New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who was released by Kansas City at the tail end of the preseason.
Toney had just 27 catches for 169 yards with the Chiefs in 2023. This is after Kansas City traded for the former first-round pick and saw him become one of the heroes of their Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. However, constant drops and mental errors led to Toney being a healthy scratch for the Chiefs down the stretch and in their Super Bowl run and he was ultimately let go.
Now, he goes to a Cleveland Browns team that has a load of problems offensively. And by loads of problems, I mean their quarterback is awful and can't seem to put the ball in the same county as his intended receiver. The move to bring in Toney doesn't make sense for the Browns. They have a deep receiver room as it is with Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore, rookie Jamari Thrash, and Cedric Tillman. Where does Toney fit in? And who do they cut to make room for him?
The bottom line is that as long as Watson is the quarterback of the Browns, no other moves they make will matter because he is dreadful. Bringing in Toney isn't going to fix that.
