We are witnessing historically awful quarterback play from Deshaun Watson. 75 quarterbacks have played 100 snaps since Watson was traded to the Browns in 2022 - he ranks 60th in EPA per play, 61st in success rate, 61st in completion percentage, and 56th in CPOE.
Eventually, you'd think that Cleveland would just rip off the band-aid and bench Watson. If and when that does happen, they can finally begin moving on and find a quarterback they can move forward with. Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News foresees Cleveland doing just that in the 2025 NFL Draft, predicting that they will take Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.
"NFL scouts will be interested in the latest Crimson Tide dual-threat, who can remind them of the Eagles' Jalen Hurts with his strong arm and great mobility," Iyer writes. "Milroe has had a big year to climb back in the top-10 discussion, and whoever is the coach of the Browns next season needs to flip the page from the Deshaun Watson experience."
The Browns absolutely need to sit Watson. Sit him, tell him he can stay home - who cares? He cannot keep playing. And if they are in position to take a quarterback in 2025, which they very likely will be, they can't pass on it just because of the Watson contract.
