The Cincinnati Bengals (2-4) got out of MetLife Stadium with a prime-time win over the New York Giants (2-4), but there are still concerns on one side of the ball.
Even though the Bengals defense held the Giants offense to just seven points, Cincinnati could still use some help within Lou Anarumo's unit.
Throughout the season, star wide receiver Tee Higgins has been the subject of potential trade talks considering the fact that it's unlikely he returns in 2025.
Playing on the franchise tag this season, Higgins is likely going to be a casualty of the salary cap after the Bengals get a deal done with superstar Ja'Marr Chase.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher report believes the Bengals should look to get something for Higgins before his expected departure during the offseason, especially if it means adding something big on the defensive side of the ball.
"Adding a defensive playmaker or two could aid the Bengals significantly. Specifically, adding a pass-rusher like Haason Reddick—who has still not reported to the Jets and has requested a trade—could make a massive difference. To get a deal (or deals) done, Cincinnati should consider the bold move of trading wideout Tee Higgins," Knox wrote.
Adding a talent like Reddick to the defensive line would certainly boost the entire defense, but the Bengals would also have to hand him a massive contract.
The Bengals offense is humming through six weeks. According to Next Gen Stats, the Bengals offense ranks sixth in EPA per play (+0.07).
Of course, the Bengals are more likely to keep Higgins on the roster unless they get an offer they simply can't refuse. Having Chase and Higgins connected to Joe Burrow as long as possible gives them a weekly advantage regardless of who they are playing.
The NFL trade deadline is just a few weeks away so Higgins' future with Cincinnati will be one to watch.
