For the last couple of years, the Cincinnati Bengals have had arguably the best trio of wide receivers in the league. Ja’Marr Chase, Tyler Boyd, and Tee Higgins formed a dangerous corps that opposing defenses had nightmares trying to scheme up solutions for. The trio led to the Bengals having a potent offense, and even resulted in a Super Bowl trip for the squad.
Now, Tyler Boyd has left the team and made his way to the Tennessee Titans, and the squad is down to just two. With Higgins having some highly-publicized contract disputes with the Bengals, and ostensibly frustrated with receiving the franchise tag, could he be the next one to leave the team? One NFL analyst believes now might be the time for Cincinnati to send Higgins off and get a return for him.
Anthony DiBona of Pro Football Network believes the writing is on the wall for the relationship between Higgins and the Bengals. The NFL analyst recently identified one trade candidate for each team, and Higgins is the seemingly obvious choice for the Bengals. If the relationship between the two has deteriorated to the point Higgins won’t be back, it may be best to trade the talented receiver now while you can get something in return.
The fact that the Bengals drafted former Alabama wide receiver Jermaine Burton could be seen as a sign the team knows the end is near with Higgins. Burton may not be ready to be thrust into the role that Higgins has occupied in the Bengals offense. He may have no choice if the team decides to try and make the best of a bad situation and get some return on Higgins now while they still can.
