The Chicago Bears beat the Tennessee Titans 24-17 in Week 1, but they did it with their offense sputtering all game.
The Bears did not score an offensive touchdown in the game and did not hit over 100 yards passing through the air. The passing game was revamped during the offseason, headlined by Caleb Williams under center. Still, the Bears also added to their receiving corps, and rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze was the biggest addition there. However, Odunze was unexpectedly injured in the game on Sunday.
Rome Odunze only caught one pass in the game for 11 yards and now with the injury, it only makes matters worse for a Bears offense that had massive expectations this year. It was reported that Odunze was getting an MRI on Monday afternoon, which came as a surprise because he played the entire game on Sunday.
Then, the news came out that he suffered an MCL sprain and is considered week-to-week. It is a surprising blow for an offense that has a lot to improve on. Odunze was one of the best receivers available in the most recent NFL Draft and was selected in the first round as the ninth pick.
He had an amazing college career at the University of Washington, particularly his last two seasons, where he was dominant. He hit over 1,000 receiving yards in each of those seasons and he had seven and 13 receiving touchdowns in those seasons respectively.
The Bears need to fix their offense and fast because they have a visit to the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football for Week 2. It remains to be seen if Odunze will play and with the injury being week-to-week it might end up being a game-time decision. The best news the Bears got was that the injury was not serious and that he should be available sooner than later.
