The Chicago Bears could be looking to enhance their already mega-talented receiving corps.
Chicago's new trio of DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and No. 9 overall pick Rome Odunze promises to provide rookie quarterback Caleb Williams with an array of options, provided they can stay healthy.
The Bears lack quality depth behind those three, however, which has Chicago on the hunt in free agency to add a receiver.
In a recent report from Bleacher Report's Joe Tansey, a Pro Bowl receiver who last played for the Las Vegas Raiders was suggested as a possible acquisition for Chicago.
28-year-old wideout Hunter Renfrow was released by Las Vegas in March and is still available on the free agent market.
Renfrow last displayed quality value in 2021, when he compiled 103 receptions, 1,038 yards, and nine touchdowns for the Raiders on the way to a Pro Bowl selection. Renfrow has been far less productive since then. He's caught just 61 passes over the past two seasons combined.
Renfrow's recent performance has lowered his market value beneath that of a starting wide receiver, but Chicago wouldn't be looking for Renfrow to start.
Tansey acknowledged this by pointing out how Renfrow could benefit the Bears as a No. 4 receiver and third-down specialist.
"Renfrow could be utilized in third-down situations in the tight pockets of space in the middle of the field,” Tansey said. "The Bears just need a possession-based wideout like Renfrow to give Williams one more option in certain situations. He certainly would not be an every-down player, but he could have some use when the Bears need to pick up first downs."
If Renfrow were to sign with Chicago, he'd be competing with second-year wideout Tyler Scott for the No. 4 receiver role.
Will the Bears move on a deal for Renfrow, or will they wait patiently for better receiver assets to surface after training camp?
