In the NFL it takes a lot to own up to your own mistakes, especially in the case of front office executives and managers. One of the most notable general managers in recent memory in Hall of Famer John Elway recently went onto Barstool Sports' "Pardon my Take" podcast and relented that not taking current Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was his biggest mistake as a general manager.

During the 2018 draft Elway and the quarterback needy Broncos opted to take NC State pass rusher Bradley Chubb to help bolster their top end defense as opposed to taking the then volatile Allen.
"Last year I played [golf] with him and I'm wondering, 'How long is it going to take him to realize that I passed on him and took Bradley Chubb instead?' And it took him two and a half holes," Elway said during the interview.
"And I loved him. But it just didn't work out. He was my type. That was probably my biggest mistake of my GM days, was not taking Josh."
Of course now Josh Allen is a dominant player and the face of the Buffalo Bills franchise, while the Denver Broncos hope they finally have an answer in their most recent first round signal caller Bo Nix. It goes to show just how fast whiffing on a player can turn into proverbial quicksand and end in any front office manager's untimely resignation.
