The Buffalo Bills will close out their preseason this Saturday when they host the Carolina Panthers and then get ready to host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
Before then, though, ESPN has released their power rankings where they polled 80 of their writers and TV personalities to rank all 32 NFL teams, and the Bills finished slightly out of the top five, but in a respectable position at No. 7.
The teams ahead of the Bills are as follows:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Baltimore Ravens
- San Francisco 49ers
- Detroit Lions
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Houston Texans
I can get behind a good number of those teams being ranked where they are. However, the Baltimore Ravens are the most overrated team in the NFL and have no business being ranked above the Bills.
Everyone loves to point out who the Bills have lost this offseason, but look at what Baltimore has lost in comparison.
The Bills lost two 33 year-old safeties, a center whom they had a suitable in-house replacement for and drafted another, a cornerback in Tre’Davious White who has only played in 14 of the last 34 games, and a receiver in Stefon Diggs who was killing the vibes and declining.
The Ravens, on the other hand, lost three starters on their offensive line and Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Queen to their division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers. They also lost safety Geno Stone, who had seven interceptions in 2023, to the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals. On top of that, they also lost defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, who is now the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. Everyone hammers home all the players that the Bills have lost, but few seem to acknowledge all the pieces the Ravens lost, which are far greater.
Putting the Bills at No. 7 is perfectly fine - putting the Ravens at No. 2 is insane. Especially when the Bills have the superior quarterback in Josh Allen, who has proven to be far more reliable in games of importance.
