The Buffalo Bills dropped their second straight game in Week 5 in a heartbreaking 23-20 loss in Houston to the Texans. And while the Bills struggled in the passing game and were lucky to even be in the game to begin with, the biggest story of this game centered around an injury, and potential controversy.
Josh Allen was thrown to the turf after throwing a ball away where his head made hard contact with the ground and he remained on the ground after being hit. Allen was tested in the blue tent for a concussion, but only missed one play before coming back into the game. This prompted many to speculate on if Allen and the Bills broke NFL rules and allowed the star quarterback to play without being cleared. However, that has been put to bed.
After an investigation from the NFL and NFLPA, no wrongdoing was found on the end of the Bills, which they acknowledged in a joint statement.
"The NFL and NFLPA have reviewed the reports from the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultant and Booth Spotters and those reports confirm that the steps required by the concussion protocol were followed in the evaluation and clearance of Bills' quarterback Josh Allen in last Sunday's game. The protocol has been jointly developed and is jointly administered by the NFL and NFLPA. Under that program the parties jointly identify, retain, and train the Unaffiliated Neurotrauma Consultants and Booth Spotters."
So put all the conspiracy theories to rest - the Bills and Josh Allen didn't violate go rogue.
