The Baltimore Ravens have a Justin Tucker problem.
The 34-year-old is one of the greatest kickers of all-time, but he has suddenly gone cold on field goal attempts.
Tucker is 5-of-8 on field goals this season. He has especially struggled on longer kicks — dating back to last season, he is 1-of-7 on kicks from 50-plus yards. In the Ravens' Week 3 win over the Dallas Cowboys, Tucker also missed from 46 yards, which kickstarted a Cowboys run.
Luckily, however, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh believes they have found the problem.
"It's just a technique issue right now that he's working through," Harbaugh told reporters on Monday (via ESPN's Jamison Hensley). "He knows exactly what it is and just needs to smooth it back out. I'm very confident that he will."
Tucker has seemed frustrated by the misses, but Harbaugh told reporters the team is still supporting him and believes he'll iron out his issues.
"Justin knows that we support him," Harbaugh said. "I've tried to make sure he knows that that's part of it. The talent, the ability, all that stuff is there, that hasn't gone anywhere. We see it all the time, but it's a technique thing I think we approach from a technical standpoint. Justin is a pro. I have a great belief that he'll get the job done."
Even with the misses, Tucker is still the all-time most accurate kicker on field goals, according to Hensley.
However, this year, Tucker's 62.5% field goal percentage is dead-last among kickers to play in all three games.
Tucker has hit 100% of his extra points this season.
Before the season, we ranked Tucker as one of the 11 most important Ravens this season, in part because of his reliability. Where would the Ravens be without their dynamic kicker who seemed like an automatic three points?
The Ravens need Tucker to return to form quickly. Any more misses in the next few games, and this could go from a bad trend to a near-emergency.
