Derrick Henry has the chance to earn a little extra with the Baltimore Ravens if he performs well on the field.
Henry signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Ravens this offseason in what was arguably Baltimore's splashiest offseason move.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Henry has an additional $4 million in bonuses tied to certain incentives.
They are, according to Meirov:
- $500,000 for 1,200 yards
- $500,000 for 1,500 yards
- $500,000 for 13 TDs
- $500,000 for 15 TDs
- $500,000 for 1,000 rushing yards + a Ravens Super Bowl win
According to Meirov, the incentives are split evenly across the two seasons, and the max Henry can earn is $2 million. So even if he hit all five, he would only earn $2 million.
The incentives are an interesting bet for Henry. In 2022, he rushed for 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns, meaning he would have hit these incentives. Last year, however, he ran for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns, meaning he would have come up just short.
Henry, of course, is now a year older with a lot of miles on his legs. He also joins a Ravens running back group that might be the best in the NFL, with Justise Hill and Keaton Mitchell backing him up.
The Ravens still plan to lean on Henry, however. Head coach John Harbaugh recently said he envisions Henry "running for a lot of yards." Harbaugh suggested the Ravens might introduce some more complex offensive schemes to try to create more space for Henry to run.
