The Baltimore Ravens added some veteran depth, just ahead of training camp.
According to multiple reports, the Ravens signed veteran safety and former Chicago Bear Eddie Jackson to a one-year deal.
The 30-year-old former All-Pro was one of several veteran safeties lingering on the free agent market. The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec reported that the Ravens had been in the market for a third safety to enhance their depth.
In seven seasons with the Chicago Bears, Jackson accumulated 15 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, 2 sacks, and 6 total defensive touchdowns. He last made the Pro Bowl in 2019. Pro Football Focus gave Jackson a 58.6 grade for 2023, which is about an average grade.
Jackson essentially replaces Geno Stone, who joined the Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason.
As Zrebiec noted, the addition of Jackson will allow the Ravens to move All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton around the field.
ESPN's Jamison Hensley nicely laid out the Ravens' talented secondary heading into the season. If healthy, Baltimore should give opposing passing offenses some trouble.
The Ravens should have one of the top secondaries in the league.

SS: Kyle Hamilton
FS: Marcus Williams
S: Eddie Jackson
CB: Marlon Humphrey
CB: Brandon Stephens
CB: Nate Wiggins
Of course, the addition of Jackson is to give the Ravens some insurance against injury. Marcus Williams has only played 21 total games over two seasons. The move comes as there had been increasing worry about whether the Ravens have the depth to withstand injuries to key starters.
Don't be surprised if the Ravens make some other additions during training camp and the preseason, whether it's long the offensive line or at pass rush.
