Want to hear a good joke? Thinking Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowl Free Safety Jessie Bates III isn’t worth every darn tootin’ dime of his $16 Million Average Annual Value.

Since I cover Player of the Game, it was not difficult to choose the recipient at Sporting News this week, considering the NFC did it for me, naming Bates NFC Defensive Player of the Week after a comeback 22-21 Falcons win in the treacherous Linc of Philadelphia.

Your NFC Defensive Player of the Week 🔥 pic.twitter.com/Xzjwrb16bV
Stat Sheet? Bates led the Jimmy Lake-coached defense with 12 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 TFL, & a game-sealing INT against QB Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Very few safeties in the NFL a defensive coordinator would comfortably allow to cover Devonta Smith as 1-on-1 assignment.

Jessie Bates is one of those guys - It's a difference maker schematically.
DC Jimmy Lake is able to rush 6 and Bates breaks up the quick pass #RiseUp pic.twitter.com/6CbXuJbUoo
It's not shocking to see another interception for Bates. The game-winner with 27 seconds left in Monday Night Football was his seventh in 19 games ball-hawking for GM Terry Fontenot.
Not sure there's a more dangerous defensive back in football than Jessie Bates.

Totally wrecks gameplans and his range is absurd regardless of if you want to avoid the middle of the field (a la Pittsburgh).
This play is dead before Hurts throws the ball #RiseUp pic.twitter.com/gHJMBKdBao
It is, however even less shocking to see Bates step up as a playmaker and a leader for the Falcons. Again, Veteran leaders like this win games like this on the road.
#3 GOTTA HAVE IT TONIGHT.
