Atlanta Falcons Week 2 Player of the Game: Jessie Bates III image

Want to hear a good joke? Thinking Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowl Free Safety Jessie Bates III isn’t worth every darn tootin’ dime of his $16 Million Average Annual Value.

Since I cover Player of the Game, it was not difficult to choose the recipient at Sporting News this week, considering the NFC did it for me, naming Bates NFC Defensive Player of the Week after a comeback 22-21 Falcons win in the treacherous Linc of Philadelphia.

Stat Sheet? Bates led the Jimmy Lake-coached defense with 12 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 TFL, & a game-sealing INT against QB Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.

It's not shocking to see another interception for Bates. The game-winner with 27 seconds left in Monday Night Football was his seventh in 19 games ball-hawking for GM Terry Fontenot.

It is, however even less shocking to see Bates step up as a playmaker and a leader for the Falcons. Again, Veteran leaders like this win games like this on the road.
