Verbal commitments don't have the same kind of reliability as they used to.

The Oregon Ducks found that out the hard way this weekend.

Tight end DaSaahn Brame had committed to play for Oregon back in June. However, on Sunday, July 28, Brame flipped that commitment. He shared a graphic on X that he had opted instead to play for the Tennessee Volunteers to start his college career.

“Every time I was at Tennessee for a visit, I didn’t want to leave,” Brame told On3. “Knoxville is an amazing place with great people and a great coaching staff. The campus is beautiful, most dream of playing in a place like Neyland Stadium and the fans are crazy."

Brame is widely considered a 4-star recruit and a borderline top-100 player in the 2025 high school class. At 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, he's one of the top tight ends in the country and top overall players in the state of Kansas.

"Really impressive on tape and plays like a jumbo receiver with a projectable frame," Greg Biggins with 247Sports wrote in his scouting report. "Really nice upside and projects as an early impact player at the college level with an NFL ceiling."

It's a huge commitment for Josh Heupel and the Volunteers. They now have the seventh-ranked recruiting class for 2025, and the fourth-best class in the SEC. The class is headlined by 4-star quarterback George MacIntyre, a 6-foot-6 in-state recruit out of Nashville.

Losing Brame is a tough blow to Dan Lanning and the Ducks. Meanwhile, Heupel is continuing to build a legitimate contender that hopes to compete for SEC titles and College Football Playoff berths in the coming years.
