Nick Saban has been the star of SEC Media Days, and Missouri Tigers fans will want to hear what he had to say about their best player.
The iconic Alabama Crimson Tide head coach was asked about Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III. He didn't hold back on his praise of the star wideout.
"He’s a complete player at the wide receiver position," Saban told reporters according to On3. "The guy’s got great hands and is a good route runner. He’s got explosive speeds to get on top of the defense. He can run good routes and get possession plays on third down when you need it. I think they have a good quarterback, which obviously is going to complement his abilities to play. I just think he’s a team player and a complete player at that position."
Burden was a massive 5-star recruit for the Tigers back in 2022. His offers included the Georgia Bulldogs and Saban's Crimson Tide, but he decided to stay closer to home to play for Missouri.
After a solid freshman season, Burden broke out on the national stage as a sophomore, earning first-team All-SEC honors. He finished the 2023 season with 86 receptions for 1,212 yards and nine touchdowns.
Despite all of this success, Burden thinks that he has yet to scratch the surface of what he can do.
"I look at myself as a player, I feel like there's still work to do," Burden explained at SEC Media Days. "I've still got a lot to prove once again. I want to show them I'm the best in the country. So I'm going to show up."
Burden's breakout season went hand-in-hand with Eliah Drinkwitz's most successful season as head coach at Missouri, going 11-2. If Burden can take another step forward in 2024, then the Tigers could be a legitimate national title contender this season.
